The Philosophy of Will: A Reexamination of Late Modern German Philosophy

Congratulations to Professor Anthony K. Jensen on the publication of his new book, The Philosophy of Will: A Reexamination of Late Modern German Philosophy (Routledge, 2025).
This work explores a largely overlooked thread in nineteenth-century German philosophy—the philosophy of “Will.” Professor Jensen revisits thinkers such as Goethe, Schelling, Schopenhauer, Eduard von Hartmann, Philipp Mainländer, and Julius Bahnsen to offer a fresh understanding of how the concept of “Will” shaped late modern thought.
Professor Jensen is also the author of Nietzsche’s Philosophy of History (Cambridge, 2013) and An Interpretation of Nietzsche’s “On the Uses and Disadvantage of History for Life” (Routledge, 2016). His research focuses on nineteenth-century philosophy, classical philology, and the history of ideas.
Published by Routledge as part of the Routledge Studies in Nineteenth-Century Philosophy series.
