SUMMARY:Restless Freedom: Aristotle on the Pleasant Work of Liberal Inquiry
DESCRIPTION:Jonathan Buttaci is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the
Catholic University of America\, where he is also a Senior Fellow at the J
ames Cardinal Gibbons Institute for Human Ecology. His research focuses on
Ancient Greek accounts of mind\, knowledge\, and education. He has also w
ritten and presented on later authors who engage with these themes\, for e
xample\, Augustine\, John Henry Newman\, and Peter Geach. He is currently w
 riting a book exploring how Aristotle’s treatment of myth\, imitation\, a
nd poetry can help us understand his account of theoretical learning and i
nquiry. Among other things\, this project reveals a deeper affinity betwee
n Plato and Aristotle than has been appreciated\, both on the topic of imit
ative poetry and in their accounts of learning more generally.
